Are you not sure how to start out in Erlengrat, our new map featured in the Alpine Farming Expansion? Don't worry! Here are some tips that might come in handy when arriving in the mountainous scenery with its vast green fields:

U need a mixer wagon to mix all the components that are needed for the cows then u fill it up using the mixer. One is for water and another one is the bedding I know about the mixing. I was only wondering why the requirements said%'s for grass, hay/silage, and power food. But I gather that you can reach 100% with just power food and grass. Farming Simulator 19 was developed by Giants Software and is, as the name suggests, a farming simulator. It’s not a “simulator” in the way Hand Simulator or Goat Simulator is, where the game is geared more toward comedy and almost laughably difficult movement mechanics. This simulator is exactly what it sounds like.

Create your own fields - anywhere!

The focus of the expansion lies on grassland. Hence, why we provided you with a lot of specialized tools made to operate in hilly surroundings. Yes, there is lots of grass around Erlengrat. If you want to focus more on crops you can sow them on the fields, of course. But - not enough fields available for you? Make your own, then! Buy the land, fetch a plow, activate the 'field creation' option in the game-settings and start plowing wherever you want to create a field.

Special train, heading for Felsbrunn

In Erlengrat, the train works a little bit different from what you're used to. Now, the train doesn't revolve around this map alone but actually leaves Erlengrat to the east. Where it's going you ask? It's going to Felsbrunn. This allows you to sell your goods at a selling point only available by train.

When selling goods, look at the listings in the menu to find out if it's worth to halt the train. Which you actually have to do by yourself. There are two silos as well as a loading area east to the train station - in case you want to load it up with tree trunks it's easily accessible.

To load your goods onto the train you have to board it and stop it at the desired loading station. Then, proceed as usual and let the train leave for Felsbrunn.

Grassland farming 101

We provided you with a lot of machines designed to be operated on this kind of terrain. Most importantly, with big machines you will run into problems on hilly terrain. First time grass harvesting? Let's take a quick look into grass, hay and silage.

Grass

There are various mowers included in the Alpine Farming Expansion: PÖTTINGER offers the NOVAALPIN 261, NOVACAT 301 ALPHA MOTION Master as well as the NOVADISC 812. On top of that, there's the Sepp Knüsel F 240 and the Aebi CC 66. The latter is not an attachment but a stand-alone machine for manual use - especially useful in tight spaces.

Mow the grass on your fields and rake it up with a windrower. Either use a loading wagon to pick up the grass or use a baler and produce bales. We advise you to buy the optional bale turner in the shop, too. It'll make it easier to unload round bales without them rolling down the hill uncontrolled. It will happen, if you're new to the baling business.

Hay

To produce hay, you need to use a tedder for the grass to dry. Two options from PÖTTINGER here: The ALPINHIT 4.4 H and the HIT 8.9 T. After grass turned to hay, use either a baler to produce bales to sell or a loading wagon to pick it up and store it in a hay loft.

Silage

Silage is obtained in one of two ways: By keeping grass in a covered bunker silo or by wrapping grass bales. Wait until it's fermented and enjoy having made silage. You can now use silage for feeding (more on that below) or sell it at the biogas plant.

Animal husbandry in the Alps

Cows are the stars of the Alpine animal kingdom. If you start as a 'new farmer' you already have some of them on your farm. All important machines too, of course. Since the Chocolatier and Cheese Factory are the most important businesses in town, there is a steady demand for milk. Therefore, we advise you to focus on them and meet those demands.

Good thing, there's enough food for them around. To keep your cows giving milk and have them somewhat satisfied, you'll need water and grass or hay - those are the minimum requirements. You can also feed them silage if you have produced any.

To make them even more happy and productive, you should also provide them with straw for their bedding (therefore, you should sow some grains to get straw), clean out their feeding area regularly and produce Total Mixed Ration (TMR) for food. If you provide them with bedding and TMR, their productivity is boosted to 100%.

Requirements to produce TMR

  • You'll need a mixing machine like the Kuhn RA 142
  • Fill it with grass, hay and silage to produce TMR

Additional Tips

  • You can buy each TMR ingredient at the shop
  • TMR Ingredients can be added loose or in bale form

Selling the Milk
Cows will be one of the animals readily-available in your farm. You won’t have to buy them or anything but you will have to feed them. In the beginning, of course, you won’t have enough resources to buy the equipment needed to make their food (it’s actually a wonder that they survived your first few weeks with no food :P ). But once you have already gained enough money to produce their food, Cows will produce two things you can sell or further make money out of—that is Milk and Manure.

Feeding Cows to Produce Milk

YouTo make milk, you will have simply have to feed them. They can be fed either with simple grass, hay, straw, hay and straw bales, and even a combination of everything. Their productivity increases when you feed them more hay or straw bales.

Feeding with Simple Grass

To feed them with Grass, simply Mow your nearby meadow.
Tip: To increase or make the grass field better, you may opt to spray some fertilizer around.
After mowing the whole Grass field, proceed with driving your Tractor with a Loading Wagon attachment, around the field to pick up the Grass. Once that is done, drive your Tractor and unload the Grass onto the Cow shed and check on the Milk tank near your cow shed for productivity.

Making Grass Bales

Note: Making bales will require quite a lot of money first as it would require you to purchase a few pricey equipments (Baler, Windrower, Auto Stacker, etc.) Despite the heavy price, investing in those equipment will surely be rewarding later on as your Animals can provide products with bigger yields).
To make Grass Bales, begin the normal process of mowing (or even fertilizing) the meadow. Afterward, use a Windrower to arrange the Grass into neat rows. Then, attach a Baler to your Tractor and then drive along the rows on your field—the Baler will create Grass bales once it gets enough Grass to make one bale. After the Baler, attach an Auto Stacker (Arcusin FS 63-72) to your Tractor and then drive along the field to pick up the Grass Bales. Once you have collect all the Grass Bales, drop them off to your cowshed for their food.

Feeding with Simple Hay

To feed your Cows with Hay involves pretty much the same method in producing Grass. To start, Mow your Meadow. Afterward, run a Tedder (an equipment used to dry the Grass) across the field. After successfully drying up the Grass what’s next is you may run a Windrower across the field of dried Grass in order to arrange the Grass into neat rows. (Note: Using the Windrower may not be necessary as you could still collect the Hay with the Loading Wagon. Though it is not required, using the Windrower is still recommended when creating Grass and Straw Bales for a higher efficiency).
After using the Windrower, you may now drive your Tractor, with a Loading Wagon attachment, throughout the field in order to collect the Hay. After doing so, you may drive your Tractor with the Loading Wagon towards the Cow shed and unload the collected Hay at the drop-off area for the cow’s food. Later on, you may check for the produced milk by attaching the Milk tank onto a Tractor and waiting for it to be filled up.

Making Hay Bales

Note: Making bales will require quite a lot of money first as it would require you to purchase a few pricey equipments (Baler, Windrower, Auto Stacker, etc.) Despite the heavy price, investing in those equipment will surely be rewarding later on as your Animals can provide products with bigger yields).
The steps involved in producing Hay Bales begin with making sure to mow and dry up Grass on the field. After having cut and dried the grass the next thing to do would be to run a Windrower throughout the field to arrange the Hay into neat rows so the Baler and Loading Wagon can pick up the Hay easily. After that, run a Baler throughout the field to create

Feeding with Straw

Straw is what is left on a field after you have harvested Wheat (the yellow rows created on the field after every harvest). To pick up the Straw, all you have to do is drive a Tractor with a Loading Wagon attachment through the yellow rows of Straw all over the field. Once that is done, and all rows have been covered, drive your Loading Wagon to the cow shed to deposit the collected Straw.

Making Straw Bales

Note: Making bales will require quite a lot of money first as it would require you to purchase a few pricey equipments (Baler, Windrower, Auto Stacker, etc.) Despite the heavy price, investing in those equipment will surely be rewarding later on as your Animals can provide products with bigger yields).
Straw can also be used to produce Straw Bales. To create Bales, drive a Baler onto the rows of Straw on a field. Once a Baler has enough material to make a single Bale, then it will drop the Bale on the field to wait for collection. After the whole field is done, what is left to do is to drive the Arcusin FS 63-72 auto stacker along the Straw bales to pick up all the formed straw bales.
With your auto stacker filled up, you may drive to the cow shed and drop off the Straw Bales for them to use as food.

Selling the Milk

Check on the milk tank, by the cow shed, to check how much milk was produced. Once the milk tank is filled, the next step would be to sell the milk to a preferred shop (station, mill, harbor, etc.). As prices vary among the shops, it is best to check the current buying price of a shop.
To check for prices, you may open your map and tap on the store’s icon to check on the prices. Another way to do so would be to open your Prices tab which is located within your settings. Upon reaching the Prices tab, all you have to do is check on the prices of each store.
When you have decided which store to sell the Milk to, all you have to do now is to drive all the way to the store—with your Milk tank—and sell the milk. If you do not want to drive all the way there, you may hire an assistant to do the driving for you, for a fee.
